Props 101

Pitch change: Taking the pitch out of a prop or adding a pitch does NOT make that prop the next higher or lower in relation to the average purchased prop. For reference, a 25 pitch prop that has a pitch removed is not a 24 pitch after the work is done.

Typically all props are 2-3 degrees higher in actual pitch than stated, at least on my set of gauges.

Therefore, if one pitch is removed from one of those props that reads say, 28 in actual pitch, it will become a 27.

This change will still effect a 200 rpm change but does not make it the next lower number even though the actual readings might end up being the same.

Changing pitch is only relevant to the rpm's produced for a given situation and change is necessitated only by the need to regulate rpm's.
